How to Choose the Right Ski Boot Size
Boot fit matters more than anything else for comfort and performance on the mountain. Here's how to get it right the first time.
Why Ski Boots Are Different
Ski boots don't size like regular shoes. They use the Mondopoint (MP) system, which is your foot length in centimeters. A 27.5 MP boot fits a foot that's 27.5 cm long.
Ski boots should fit snug. A properly-fitted boot has very little dead space. Your toes should lightly brush the front when standing, then pull back when you flex forward. Too much room means less control and more blisters.
Important: Liners Pack Out
Boot liners compress over time (usually 2–3 days of skiing). What feels snug on day one will feel looser by day three. Always size for a snug fit out of the box — it will relax to the right fit after break-in.

Boot Width: The Last
Boot “last” refers to the width of the shell at the widest point. This is measured in millimeters. Width is where many boot-fit problems originate — choosing the wrong last causes pressure points and pain.
Narrow (96–98mm)
For low-volume, narrow feet. Performance-oriented boots.
Standard (100–102mm)
Most skiers fit a standard last. Good balance of performance and comfort.
Wide (104mm+)
High-volume, wide feet. More comfort-focused boots.
Flex Index: How Stiff Should Your Boot Be?
| Skier Level | Flex Range |
|---|---|
| Beginner / Recreational | 60–80 |
| Intermediate | 80–100 |
| Advanced | 100–120 |
| Expert / Racer | 120–140+ |
The Shell Fit Test
The most accurate way to check if a boot fits is to remove the liner and test the shell:
- 1Remove the liner from the boot shell.
- 2Place your bare foot into the shell and slide forward until your toes lightly touch the front.
- 3Check how much space is behind your heel. 1–2 finger widths is correct. More than that = too big. Less = too small or the wrong last width.
- 4Replace the liner, buckle up, and walk around. Your heel should not lift when you flex forward.
