Salt Lake City has world-class skiing within 30 minutes of downtown. Four Cottonwood Canyon resorts, all close. If you don't bring your own gear, renting is step one. Here's how to do it right.
Where to Rent: Resort vs. Ski Shop
You have two options: rent at the resort base area, or rent at an independent ski shop before you drive up.
Resort rental shops are convenient if you forgot something, but they come with drawbacks: higher prices, longer lines on busy mornings, and less personalized service.
Independent shops like The Lifthouse are cheaper, faster, and staffed by people who take time to fit you properly. We're at 3700 Fort Union Blvd, the last stop before all four resorts. Get set up here and drive straight to the lift.
Understanding Rental Package Tiers
Rental shops tier their packages by equipment quality. At The Lifthouse, we offer three tiers:
Demo Package
From $70/day
Current-season, top-of-the-line skis — the same equipment our expert staff would choose for themselves. Ideal for strong intermediate and advanced skiers who want to test high-performance gear without buying it.
Performance Package
From $50/day
High-quality intermediate-to-advanced skis. Better than sport packages in terms of edge control, responsiveness, and overall ski quality. Great for confident intermediates.
Sport Package
From $35/day
Solid beginner-to-intermediate equipment. A great choice for first-timers, infrequent skiers, or families on a budget. All packages include skis, boots, and poles.
Multi-Day Discounts
Rental prices drop automatically for multi-day bookings. Day 2 is cheaper than Day 1, and Day 3+ is cheaper still. If you're skiing more than one day, reserve for all days upfront to get the best rate.
What's Included
All ski packages include skis, boots, and poles. Snowboard packages include board, boots, and bindings. Helmets are available — if you don't own one, renting is strongly recommended.
Bindings are always pre-set for your weight and ability level and checked before you leave the shop.
Reserve in Advance
Walk-ins are always welcome, but on powder mornings and weekends we get busy. Reserve online 24-48 hours ahead to guarantee your size and be in and out fast.
