What Atomic is good at
Atomic is two brands in one building. There is the race and frontside side of the house — decades of World Cup development — and there is the Bent series, which is one of the most-loved freeride ski families of the last decade.
For most people walking into a Utah ski shop, Atomic means the Bent. It is a soft-flexing, surfy, forgiving ski that makes powder feel easy and makes mistakes feel survivable, and it has a devoted following in the Wasatch for good reason.
How Atomic skis in the Cottonwoods
The Bent Chetler is arguably the most common ski you will see on a Little Cottonwood powder morning, and that popularity is earned rather than marketing. It floats without needing much speed, which matters in trees and in tight terrain where you cannot just point it. The trade-off is that it gets nervous on firm groomers — if half your season is spring corn and hardpack, look at the narrower Bent or the Maverick line instead.

The ski matters less than the boot
We will happily sell you a Atomic ski, but if your boots do not fit, a better ski will not fix it. Most people ski in boots a full size too big. Boot fitting is included when you buy boots here — shell fitting, punching, custom footbeds and canting, done in-house.

Waist width, and therefore what they are for. The 100 is an everyday all-mountain ski that handles soft snow well. The 110 is a soft-snow ski you can still ski on a mixed day. The 120 is a dedicated powder ski — brilliant on a storm day, hard work on a groomer. Most Utah skiers who own one Bent own the 100 or the 110.
It is forgiving for its category, which is not the same as being a beginner ski. It is soft and surfy and does not punish mistakes, but it is a freeride ski and it wants soft snow. A true beginner is better served by something narrower and cheaper — and honestly, by renting until the technique is there.
