What Völkl is good at

How Völkl skis in the Cottonwoods
The Cottonwoods are not a soft-snow-all-day proposition. You get a foot overnight, it skis beautifully until mid-morning, and then it turns into cut-up crud that punishes a light ski. Völkl's strength is exactly that second half of the day. If you ski Little Cottonwood on weekends and you are still on the hill at 2pm, a damp Völkl in the mid-90s waist range will do more for you than a wider, lighter powder ski.

The ski matters less than the boot
We will happily sell you a Völkl ski, but if your boots do not fit, a better ski will not fix it. Most people ski in boots a full size too big. Boot fitting is included when you buy boots here — shell fitting, punching, custom footbeds and canting, done in-house.

For a genuine deep day, the wider Revolt and the Katana are the ones to look at. For a ski that handles powder in the morning and cut-up snow in the afternoon — which is most Cottonwood days — the Mantra in the mid-90s waist range is the more practical answer.
Some of them. The Blaze is noticeably more forgiving than the Mantra and is a reasonable intermediate-to-advanced ski. The Mantra rewards a skier who drives the front of the boot and can feel like hard work if you are not there yet. Come in and we will be honest about which side of that line you are on.
We run demo ski rentals at $70 for the first day, and demo days are the single best way to spend money before spending more money. Call ahead so we can have something appropriate mounted and ready.
